Today I wanted to talk about cleaning makeup brushes! During this pandemic, a lot of people have been experiencing acne because of face mask-wearing, that never had a breakout problem before. Regularly cleaning makeup brushes is one way to help clear or prevent acne issues.
The first thing that you want to do is gathering up all of your dirty makeup brushes. In the video, these are my personal brushes that I have collected throughout the years. The best soap to clean your brushes with is shampoo, that’s right the same shampoo your using in your hair because it is pH balanced and gentle. Most brushes are made with real hair so why wouldn’t we treat makeup brushes the same as we do our own hair! When you’re cleaning your brushes make sure that you scrub into the shank of the brush to get all of the dirt and makeup debris out, after you rinse your brushes place them on a towel and pat them dry.
Next, I like to put conditioner on my brushes, just like I do my hair because most brushes are made with real hair or bristles. We all know hair has a tendency to dry out. So, in order to keep your brushes in the best shape, they can be in, it’s a good idea to condition them just like we do our own hair. Rinse the brushes completely, pat dry, and then place them on a towel or on the edge of the counter so that the bristles can dry evenly.
Never place them in a cup with the bristles up. I bet you are wondering why? Well, the water will penetrate into the shank loosening the glue that keeps the bristles/hair in place. By laying the brushes down flat on a towel this will prevent the hair/bristles from falling out of the brush. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Here is to beautiful skin!
Sustainability yours,
Lori
